G+_Snuffy Sims
My Galaxy S4 GPE started draining my battery really quickly about a month ago. Any idea how I can figure out the cause on an unrooted phone?
G+_Mark Stronge
Remove task killer, and whatever that light bulb is, for a start. Go into settings, apps, running and look at your running apps and cached processes

G+_Neil Sedlak
Don't turn off location, find the root cause. Trepn Profiler's CPU usage monitor will show you active apps running in the background. I agree to turn off any task killers or optimizers, and that looks like Tasker. Have you turned that off for a day? It could be keeping your phone awake looking for triggers. ?
G+_John Adams
Could if it is the original battery has seen better days? Do you have a spare to try?

G+_Alan Char
Mark Stronge Neil Sedlak I will try turning off Tasker, but it has been on my phone since day one, and the problem only started recently. I guess I could turn things off one a time to try and figure out what's misbehaving, but I was hoping for a less hit-or-miss solution. Maybe Trepn Profiler will help. John Adams Thanks, I did try a spare battery, but it didn't change anything.
G+_Pat Drummond
The battery in Settings will tell you what is using your battery the most. If that doesn't help, the CPU usage monitor should find it. If not, the spare battery is shot too. My Galaxy S Captivate went through a battery a year - I'm not a heavy user or road warrier. G+_Alan Char
Thanks for all the help everyone. Although the stats and monitors didn't help, the AAA audience came through again. It was indeed Tasker. Once I removed it, my battery usage returned to normal. It's a shame, really, since I find it useful. Maybe it will be fixed in a future update. G+_Mark Stronge
Alan Char lucky guess :-) i would suggest contacting the tasker developer to inform them of the problem. You could also try going to apkmirror.com and downloading an older version of tasker, install it and disable auto updates.
G+_Neil Sedlak
Alan Char check in the Tasker settings for the poling intervals. If you have it check sensors and location less often it might help you find a good balance.
G+_Alan Char
Mark Stronge Neil Sedlak Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them out. And I did contact the developer, so we'll see if he gets back to me.
