G+_Gabriel Sigala
Hi there. I guess a few of you people in here have already received a Chromecast, and I have a question that I haven't seen answered anywhere and it's very important to me since I do not reside in the United States. When setting up your Chromecast, do you get advanced options such as using a custom DNS (such as the unblock-us DNS) directly on the device? Hope the community can help me find an answer to this simple question :-D Thanks!
G+_Chris Bates
also curious about how the tab mirroring works , specifically for video.
G+_Scott Rose
Rune Koldborg Jensen I didn't see anything like that. Chromecast just connects to your WiFi. I would suspect if you have those setting on your router you're good to go. Chris Bates I have used the laptop for casting but have seen demos. Might want to check those out. G+_Chris Bates
Scott Rose Thanks, impressive was interested about the sound and video being out of sync when streaming the tab instead of the video itself. The view examples I saw on youtube didnt have the sound going.
G+_Chris Bates
Scott Rose have you tried streaming video that was not youtube?
G+_Rune Koldborg Jensen
Scott Rose thanks for clearing that up. I guess I will have to find a way to change the dns router side. I'm looking for a good solution for my in laws, and unfortunately their ISP doesn't easily allow that.
G+_Wade Shields
Chris Bates You need the GoogleCast chrome extension to dip tab mirroring. It's already in the Chrome Web store. I'm
G+_Chris Bates
Wade Shields Thanks , any word on playing non youtube videos in tab mirroring? Just curious getting one anyway at $35 how can you not.
G+_Wade Shields
Not sure yet. Won't get mine shipped until Aug.7. Websites like Hulu will still likely be able to block the Chromecast user agent if they so choose.
G+_Dave Bach
I found that lowering the resolution down to 480p (the lowest of three options I think) allows for a pretty smooth chrome tab video playback. The higher two options stuttered a bit on video but was crisp displaying text and photos. Just right click on the cast icon in your chrome browser to get to the options. After changing options you'll have to quit casting and then start it up again for changes to be applied. Also note that you can play your local video files in the chrome tab you're casting by typing "c:\" and then finding the file within that directory. You can also just drag and drop one of your video files onto a chrome tab to play it.

G+_Joe Krug
Can you cast from the chrome browser on android?
G+_Dave Bach
You can't cast a tab yet from the Chrome browser in Android...not even with the Chrome Beta browser for Android. Hopefully that is future functionality we will soon see.
G+_Joe Krug
agreed. I've just about separated myself from using a laptop or desktop since I got my Nexus 7. I'd hate to have to use it to broadcast websites.
