G+_Russell Grokett
I'm not quite sure about the outrage over the cost of the Pixel. I am personally disappointed by the high price, but it's also the third Google phone that has a premium price. The Nexus 6 started at $650, as did the Nexus 6p, and now the Pixel does as well. The last sub $400 phone from Google was the Nexus 5 almost 3 years ago. Am I missing something here? I admit, I'm in Canada so I've had to search for the US prices for consistent comparison. G+_John “NotSo” Bright
I am not upset about the cost. But the 5.5 is about is about $200 more. hopefully it will be worth it.
G+_Beny Spensieri, Jr.
This is true. I tried to limit my price comparisons to the base units. Otherwise the prices were too variable to compare.
G+_Paul Werner
The 6P wasn't $650 new. It was $499 for the 32GB version. The outrage makes sense when you take that same $650 and use it to get a phone with more features (water resistance, SD Card access, removable battery, etc. Depending on the device of course) Or that same $650 for another device that also doesn't have the added features & still have money left over for whatever. For Google to sell this to most people they'd either need to have the added features for the cost or make it cheaper to entice people. They did neither & hence all the negativity. I'm not saying it won't sell but I guarantee that many people won't even look at this based off of cost alone. Others will consider the cost to be reasonable but go for an option with the features mentioned. For myself it's not enough of an improvement over the 6P to make me want it. G+_Tim Pickering
The Nexus 5x was $349.00 for the 16GB version.
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Paul Werner? and I am totally in the I'm upgrading my 6P for the Pixel. What I get is a better camera, better processor, smaller screen (6" is too big for me), seamless updates (only available on new devices), optimized Daydream, and baked in Google Assistant. All of those were worth the upgrade for me. Also, my wife is getting the Pixel in lieu of her 5X, which is an obvious upgrade.
G+_Paul Werner
Joseph Cappellino for sure. ?It's all based on how you see it. What I saw from the camera was good but not so good to make me want to drop a 1 year old phone, processor is an improvement but 6P is never a slouch either, seemless updates are nice but I'm OK with waiting for it to install (& will eventually get into that too when a future device entices me), I wouldn't use Daydream enough to justify the cost, & Google Assistant (the way they demoed it) is basically Google Feed (formally Now) & Screen Search (formally Now on Tap) with a few new animations. I'm a huge Google fan but I got to have some limits on cost otherwise I would just be buying due to it being the new thing. By the way they've sold out in 2 days (for the 128GB version anyway) some people have to be thinking this is the right direction. They almost would have me but cost, lack of front facing speakers, & only incremental hardware upgrades has me holding back this year
G+_Beny Spensieri, Jr.
Tim Pickering I didn't include the 5x in the comparison because it was not a flagship device like the 6p was.
G+_Beny Spensieri, Jr.
Paul Werner You are correct. My search must have pulled in Canadian or Australian prices for the 6p by mistake. Though $499 was easily $150 more than the Nexus 5.
G+_Paul Werner
Beny Spensieri, Jr. oh no doubt. I had a tough choice when I wanted to update from the N5 to the N6P myself. Prior to that I sold my N4 to get the N5 even at it's lower price but didn't sell my N5 (my wife is now using that). What ultimately got me interested in the N6P was it being the 1st Nexus with Smart Burst and a big improvement over the N5's camera. Also we had our first child right around then so I didn't want all my memories to be at N5 quality but I wasn't willing to deal with TouchWiz just to get the better camera (so the N6P was perfect timing for me even if it costed a bit more). Now regarding the Pixel phones they do have nice cameras but (to me) not improved enough over the N6P to make me want to spend my money on that. I'd just rather keep using the N6P and use all that money on other things that are worth it
