G+_Joel G. J
Anybody know of any good soldering irons for the occasional hobbyist. I want recommendations. Saw the Smitty segment, but he was too vague on a specific soldering iron. Thnx.
G+_Travis Hershberger
If it's just occasional use any 25w iron will do. If you'll be using it a lot then spend some money and get a decent adjustable temp one. If you get really fancy you can get a model like Smitty has that heats up using sound vibrations (heats up almost instantly. Really nice and even more expensive.) G+_Steven Atkinson
Even the cheaper Weller irons are good. Mine is mains powered rather than low voltage but it uses magnetic tips to regulate the temperature. It's a little slow to heat up, not because it's under powered by because there is quite a bit of mass to it. That gives it the advantage of not cooling quick when if you start to work on something bigger than a small component on a circuit board. It is still delicate enough to handle small chips as well.? G+_Aaron Kimmins
Hakko 888. Under $100 on Amazon. I love this iron, it heats quick, and will go all day. Best bang for the buck
G+_Joel G. J
how much of a necessity is it for my iron to have quick-swappable tips like smitty demonstrated? And also, is a 3-pronged plug also important (read from element14)?
