G+_Joel G. J
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ : Hey Know-it-Alls! Does anyone know of a device that is simpler than a Kindle Ebook reader, DOES NOT USE internet, and can display PDF's off of an external [standard/micro] SD Card/Internal storage? Want to use this for updated/custom prayer books in church, so NO DISTRACTIONS. (Custom = Updated translations and formatted compactly). Also, relating to PDF''s, How can i keep a certain font that may be available in one program (e.g. Google Docs) to not change no matter which I open the file
G+_Shaun Snee
Try finding "old" e-readers. At work they were able to purchase a bunch of old Nooks for a field trial.
G+_Joel G. J
Shaun Snee Any reccommended models?
G+_Shaun Snee
Not really, what we tried was not really useful for our purposes - but they were cheap; I think about $20/30 each. You would have to see what products are still available; but not cutting edge.
G+_John Stoume
I second Shaun Snee with the old e-readers idea. I recommend the Sony Reader PRS-600. I just checked ebay and you can pick them up for about $30. I believe that they shut down the reader store, so that should help you with removing distractions. They read PDF, epub, and several other formats.
G+_Gary C-B
Not sure about widespread availability in USA but over in the UK you can get older versions of kobo E readers cheap. I seem to remember an old before you buy episode saying they were cheaper than the kindle there and in Canada. No experience with Sony version so not saying it's better just an alternative. G+_Joel G. J
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ : Thx for featuring my q on the show 2day! :) Just wondering what model of Kobo was preferred? The Reason I want to update the files is for "translation & format discrepancies" between an Indian Language transliterated in English text and the English translation. I'm an {Indian} Orthodox Christian BTW. Also, you mentioned the word "Missal" in the show. I have heard/seen that term before, but can you explain. G+_Eddie Foy
I know its a little old, but if the PDF's are DRM free, you might want to convert them to mobi/epub formats. Readers seem to like them over basic PDFs. Calibre will do this. Not sure if it works on Windows, I think it does. Its free/OpenSource. G+_Joel G. J
Eddie Foy these are Google docs that are being saved to PDF. Thanks for you input though. Any knowledge on PDF Font support though?
G+_Eddie Foy
Sorry no. I try to do my best to keep installed fonts to a minimum.
G+_John Stoume
Joel J as long as it's saved to PDF, Calibre should be able to convert it to epub or mobi. Also, Eddie Foy Calibre works on Windows as well.
