G+_Joel G. J
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Leo Laporte Paul Thurrott Hey! Just talked to Microsoft Support about the best way to upgrade windows to a clean install. Upgrade Windows to 10 with all of your settings intact. THEN, go to the setting to CLEAN RESET your system of your settings and apps. This is the best way so there will be no Product Key recognition issues. G+_Steve C
After all that, then do you do the clean install? That all sounds really stupid! Won't you still be installing it twice? What if there's not enough room on the drive to do an upgrade?
G+_Joel G. J
no Steve C.The reset is in lieu of the install.
G+_Steve C
My Windows 10 installation has an option to Backup and Reinstall Windows 7, which is odd since I did an upgrade from 8.1, but there's no option for any reset. Cortana doesn't know anything about that either so I think you just made it up!

G+_Steve C
I Googled it and found directions to reset Windows on Tenforums.com. It basically says to take your disk and install it again over the first one when prompted! If you are counting along at home that's TWO TIMES! They did it using advanced startup options though and I have no idea what that is. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4130-reset-windows-10-a.html
G+_John Phillips
It would be great if you could get it on disc
G+_Happy Macer
It is possible to download windows 10 then make your own ISO or bootable USB ... See http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-windows_install/how-to-upgrade-to-windows-10-using-the-alternative/2159c2a7-a925-4fa3-9a03-08a5e1ecf891
G+_Sean Eno
I already made the mistake of doing a clean install and attempted to use my windows 8 product key... Doesn't work and now have to try and find the windows 8 download to go back. Can't find my email receipt and not on my windows online past orders... Why can't it be like linux!? G+_Steve C
I got it to do an update of 8.1 with the DVD because after it runs for a while it says to remove the DVD, reboot and then run setup from within Win 8.1 in case you were stupid enough to try it from the DVD in the first place! G+_Sean Eno
OK thanks for your help. I am making a Windows 8.1 usb boot and will go back and update first before doing a clean install. Microsoft sure makes it incredibly hard to find an old version to download. Everything redirects you to Windows 10 lol ?
G+_Sean Eno
I actually completed the windows 8.1 clean install, entered my product key and instead of starting the 8.1 updates on the first start up it instantly started the windows 10 upgrade. Just curious why the usb boot makes you nervous? Is there concerns about that method? ?
G+_Sean Eno
Yes I found that out the hard way the first time around. It did work great doing a clean install with windows 8.1 usb boot then it automatically updated to Windows X through the system update on first launch.
