G+_Joel G. J
I hear that torrents are meant to download files faster from the web. But whenever I try to download them, they seem slower than normal downloads. HELP! {using Maelstrom Browser rn.... Want to download 32bit RemixOS Beta for VirtualBox....}
G+_Ben Reese
Torrents are typically faster because you have multiple sources to download from. You're still limited by the seeders' upstream bandwidth though and if they have any caps set on their sharing speed. You may also be limited by your own download speed. I've been using qBittorent lately which has worked pretty good. Downloaded Mint in just a few minutes a couple days ago.
G+_Ben Reese
I just clicked download on 32-bit Remix and it peaked about 30 Mbps download.
G+_Jeff Brand
It takes a while to find fast peers and ramp up. It's painful to watch the speed in the beginning.
G+_Steve Martin
Yes, bare in mind that the primary goal of Torrent is not speed, but to spread the downloading accross several different sources. This means each source can provide a small amount of bandwidth and the total might be faster. However, if there are no good seeds and/or if very few people are sharing the file then the speeds can be very slow. If the file is very popular, then speeds should be as good as a very fast download provider. The speeds can never exceed your own bandwidth limits, of course. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Remember... with torrents, you are at the mercy of the slowest seed that has the block no other node is offering. :)
G+_Brian “Yikesfpv” Gipe
bittorrent works pretty damn fast for me. I do have a relatively high speed internet connection though.
