G+_Joel G. J
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Bryan Burnett Are there network taps that are PowerLine over Ethernet so no power cable is needed? Or would it be too busy analyzing packets to detect power from the tap? Does it make the device more expensive. In terms of Wireless on certain campus networks, TALK TO THE IT DEPT before setting up in order to not knock out internet in your entire building/floor. Also, would HIPAA compliance in a Med School campus significantly affect your network setup?
G+_Jason Marsh
I don't use taps, but a quick search yields PoE-powered taps from Gigamon https://www.gigamon.com/products/g-tap-a-series I'd imagine price for units like these, which can be powered by many sources, are higher than those which are powered by a dedicated brick, USB or otherwise. gigamon.com - G-TAP A Series Active Network TAPs
