G+_610GARAGE
My mom teaches children's church and got a dvd curriculum thing. Because the church meets at a school, she needs a way to show the dvds, but be able to take it with her when she's done. I am going to rip the dvd to iso files, and use an android tablet to play the video, but I need to make the video larger. I figured a cheap projector would be great for this. So my question is this, can anybody recomend a sub $300 projector that is bright enough to be seen in a semi lit hallway.
G+_Aaron Kimmins
Not sure about the projector, but you'll want to shrink the movies, and use something like handbrake to convert to mp4 for the tablet
G+_Aaron Freeman
Does church have TV.. My Thought is chrome cast from android device??? Can not think of projector that cheap.
G+_610GARAGE
Aaron Kimmins Theres no real need to do that. I am able to copy the dvd to an iso file, and then play the iso file, just like a dvd on the android device with vlc for android. I will have to copy over each dvd when she needs it, but thats no big deal. Actually, what I am thinking is to set up the tablet as an ad hoc network, then use chrome cast, and just cast the video to the projector. Then I could attach an external hardrive to the tablet. But that may be over complicated for her. More testing would be required for that.
G+_Aaron Kimmins
610bob was just thinking about 750mb instead of 4-5gb.
G+_610GARAGE
Aaron Freeman Nope. They meet at a elementary school. So there isn't any a/v equipment that she can use.

G+_Ben Reese
I'm sure someone has a favorite projector brand, but I'd probably just look at lumens, resolution, and Amazon reviews. Then shop Craigslist to save money. I'd also recommend using Handbrake to convert the video too - just for compatibility everywhere. At that point you could fit more on a drive (internal tablet storage, micro sd, external, NAS, thumb drive...). Also, it's good to know that VLC will play DVD images! Will it play directly from a DVD drive on an OTG cable?
G+_610GARAGE
Ben Reese Tried to play a dvd, but my nexus 7 didn't mount the dvd player. :( I'm sure its possible though, just need usb dvd drivers. Or a usb dvd player that shows up as mass storage. Also, what is a good lumens range. I did do a google search and found this projector: http://www.amazon.com/AAXA-P4X-Projector-Mini-HDMI-Mini-VGA/dp/B007CWDFP6 But 125 lumens seems low. I guess my biggest problem is that I understand the terms, I just don't know what range is good and what I would need for a mildly light hallway. G+_Ben Reese
I had to look up the specs for the one we use to get an idea... We're currently using a Dell 2400MP on a I think a 120" screen cast from about 20 feet away. I'm able to see it fine in the back about 80 feet away. This is 3000 lumens and 1024×768 resolution. G+_610GARAGE
Ben Reese Thanks, that helped out alot. So 125 lumens is going to be a bit dim. I looked up Dell 2400MP on ebay, cheap, but theres no hdmi. However, that lead me to the dell 5100MP. For around $200, I get hdmi, 3,300 lumens and 1400x1050 resolution.
