G+_610GARAGE
So before the nutpocalypse.... yes overdramatic, but funny. Anyway, before that, I discovered that one of my antennas on my receiver and the only antenna on my telemetry module was ripped off. So I was going to replace it with wire, but then I thought why not just use standard 2.4ghz antennas. I figured that these antennas would be a bit sturdier than just a wire. It was actually fairly easy. I got U.F.L IPX to RP-SMA cable jumper wires on ebay. For the telemetry module, all I needed to do was pop off the old cable and pop this jumper wire on since the telemetry module had the U.F.L IPX connector on it. The Receiver was a little more difficult. I had to cut the one end of the jumper off, strip the first layer of insulation to reveal the shielding. Then I pulled back the shielding and carefully striped the insulation off of the iner wrire. Then I carefully soldered the wire onto the receiver, making sure not to melt the inner wire's insulation. I then checked for shorts, and closed up the case. WARNING If you are thinking that you can get a high gain antenna to increase your range, let me first say that that would be a very bad idea. Standard 2dbi antennas produce an radiation field that is a sphere. High gain antennas use different shapes to increase the distance that the antenna can work at. Any shape that is not a sphere can create dead zones. This would be very bad if you bank your quad or plane and suddenly your transmitter was pointing into a rf deadzone. radio jumper cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121644252260?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
G+_rob bennett
I think 6 more zip ties would have prevented this from happening. ?
G+_610GARAGE
rob bennett You joke, but your right. I originally had the wire antennas dangling below the quad. If I zip tied them to something, they would have survived.
G+_610GARAGE
Wayne Hobbins I was going to do that when I got my new radio, but the long zip ties were all the way in the garage and I figured it wouldn't get hurt dangling out the back.
