Guess who's Nexus 4's 5Ghz radio just started dying? Yesterday and since late summer 2013 my Nexus 4 had been able to connect flawlessly to our home 5Ghz network through channel 149. Today, the signal disappears whenever the phone tries to connect.

This seems to be more common now considering the aging population of Nexus 4s. The problem simply lies that the signal just immediately cuts off when the phone tries to connect to the 5Ghz network, and only on that phone, all other devices are fine.

I've tried the suggested Channel 44 or 48 fix and it's the same exact issue, which leads me to suggest the Nexus 4's 5ghz radio is prone to hardware failure after 1 year.

Yes, I am on 4.3, but I have been running fine for this setup since August 2013 and it only began acting up today, which would mean it's hardware failure related.

Edit: I've now correlated that if you have a Murata Wifi chip in your phone, don't expect it to last long. Every iPhone since the 4S uses that chip.

Edit 2: Tried a completely different router on 5Ghz in a completely different home, ditto. The actual hardware for 5Ghz is dead on the Murata chip. 2.4Ghz still works fine.
