G+_610GARAGE
Series idea. Introduction to enterprise level hardware. I know that there is TWIET, but I think there needs to be a basic introduction explaining the basics and I think that Know How would be a great place to do that. Here's a couple of topics that I, and a couple of other community members are thinking of: Racks, what are they ,why to use them, how to install a server, how to wire up a rack. PDU what it is, why use it instead of a power strip from Home Depot. Vlans. VLANS! How could I forget you. But why do I want you, and how do I use you. Level 2-4 switches, what are they, what are the differences and how do to use them. Routers, setting up a computer to be a enterprise level router (thinking of PFsense). Server grade parts, what makes them different, why to use them. Setting up a vm server, what it is and why you need one. :) Network monitoring: tap+wire shark , router deep packet inspection and span ports. Tap+wire shark has been done, so maybe just a pointer. System monitoring: Log server, splunk, any other ways to monitor system health. Network diagnostics: cable testing (again already done, but maybe an update or a pointer), ways to monitor for congestion, anything else that can diagnose networking Qos, what is it, how does it work, what supports it, how do I use it. Also, maybe some tips on buying used equipment so that we don't need to spend thousands on parts.

G+_Robert Gauld
Looks like good ideas to me.
G+_Ben Reese
Definitely vlans. Can I have my DD-WRT router assign the VLAN when a device is connected to an access point?
G+_Eddie Foy
I do believe so. Been in hotels where I have a full /24 subnet to myself. (I typically run nmap straight away) Now there is vlan hopping. Its not bulletproof segmentation.
G+_610GARAGE
I added Vlans to the list. Don't know how I could have forgotten them. Anything else that should be added?

G+_610GARAGE
Eddie Foy Added. There has been a show on network taps and wireshark, but deep packet inspection on a router could be a good topic. I also added network diagnostics and Qos. G+_Eddie Foy
Taps and wireshark aren't exactly monitoring. Bro and Snort are (on the free/opensource end). But then SPAN ports could be added.
G+_610GARAGE
Eddie Foy Thanks. Learning things already. :) I added SPAN ports and left taps. I think they are worth a mention.
G+_Eddie Foy
Splunk might be worth a gloss over (though its rather huge of a product)
G+_610GARAGE
Eddie Foy Mabey system monitoring, like a log server, and splunk.
