So I have been working on my ThinPie project. One of my users was complaining about keyboard lag. I did some research and it seems like rdesktop is being abandoned for FreeRDP. So I compiled and installed FreeRDP and boy it is faster and it can utilize Windows 8 rdp protocol. I included a short video showing it off.

I had to compile FreeRDP from source. The version from the PI repository didn't work quite right. FreeRDP also seems to need a windows manager running for it to work properly. I'm using openbox. I I disabled the right click on the desktop, so the user can't do anything except stop xorg. Because I needed a window manager, I also added some wallpaper that I made. Boy, it looks almost professional. ;)

Video watching is actually doable on ThinPi2. It's not pleasant to watch, but you can watch it. There is a slight delay with analog audio and seems to be a bigger delay on hdmi. I also don't know why Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ sounds like he inhaled helium. I only had that problem when I recorded the video.

The lag that the user was experiencing seemed to be caused by the input being ran synchronously. I had a similar but more severe version of the problem with FreeRDP until I added the +async-transport option. Then it worked great.

I hope to get a guide written out on my website soon.

The Xorg proxy was an interesting idea. But It didn't seem to reduce the load on the pi any. And created a more complicated setup.

I also have yet to figure out how to get the stupid monitor to power off when not in use. GRRRRRRRRRR
