G+_Ronald Stepp
So much for the notion that ATM's save the Banks money so they can charge us for the same service.
G+_Dalt Wisney
i actually got into a heated argument over having to pay money to take out my money. i even prevailed and came back the next day to close out my acct.
G+_Mike Zwarich
If the banks weren't able to charge, they would have no reason to put the ATMs there. Do you think that the machines are free? Or that the security guards that come there to refill the machines are volunteers? Without ATM fees you'd have to go to the bank branch itself to get cash, or go old-school and start hoarding your cash under your mattress. G+_Joe Morrison
Mike Zwarich despite not being free they are substantially cheaper than paying an actual teller. Being able to charge fees too is just the icing on the cake.
G+_Ronald Stepp
A Teller serves hundreds of people a day, doing many things during the course of their duty, their main job being taking deposits and handing out withdrawals. I guess people should stand at their mailboxes and pay the mailman per item of mail they send or receive? Or lets let a robot do the mailmans job. G+_Charles Cooper
Not to mention you have given the bank your life savings which they get to use basically interest free and charge interest and fees to borrow it.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Mike Zwarich Do you think my money is free? If you run a bank, I give you my money and allow you to use it as principle in your business. In exchange, you give me a percentage of your profit and services. It is NOT me who owes you for that service. It is you that owes me for using my money.
G+_Mike Zwarich
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ that is why they pay interest. That doesn't entitle you to unlimited service anywhere you want at any time you want. It is still a business, not your personal servant. You can quite simply avoid ever paying ATM fees ; just don't use them. Go to a teller, or withdraw within your service plans limits.
G+_Mike Zwarich
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ BTW your statement about getting a percentage of their profit and services is wrong. That's closer to what being a stockholder means than simply a depositor.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
+Actually Mike... it does... you see. .. I'm the customer and unlimited ATMs were promised as part of my service for being a customer. If they want to change me for something they originally sold as being free, I move my money. They tried that a few times and I started to move my money, so they waived the fees. Simply business with business entitlements.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
In other words... they don't HAVE to charge the fees... they would just prefer to squeeze more profit out of their customers. But it's a free country and I'm sure they'll be happy to take your money since you seem to think the rest of us are taking advantage of the poor banks. G+_Dalt Wisney
banks love their fees. fwiw, nothing is free: there's only "reasonable" and "excessive."
