G+_Bernard Bout
I guess if its FREE then there must be a catch - 0x80004005-20004 Tried many times to update to Win 10 and no luck. Saw the KH by Padre about using the tool to create a USB. D/L the ISO and mounted it as per MS info. Got the success screen (below) and clicked Next. After a whiiiiiile the system said it was complete and restarted. 0% popped up and then boom - reboot and reset back to Win 8.1. Update (below) showed the error 0x80004005 and searching on Google revealed I am not the only one. MS is silent on this one like all the others. Tried a few times just in case. No luck. This is one of the shittiest installs I have ever seen produced by MS. Well that is what FREE means - waste hours and hours of your time.
G+_Bernard Bout
Hi Wayne. I did NOT boot from the ISO. I mounted it as per MS instructions and ran setup.exe. My Windows 8.1 IS fully activated (OEM) and I am WIRED! As I said, I am not the only one as my search of google showed. And I understand you are not shouting:) Anyway at other times I have d/l on wireless and have never had a problem.Tnks.
G+_Bernard Bout
sfc /scannow was one of the many things I tried. But I did not run setup as Admin. That is one thing I could still try. Anyway I have just received the "Windows is ready to update" notification and is now downloading some files. Let's see what happens. MS Support says to do a Clean Boot and then try. Will post my progress if any.
G+_Bernard Bout
Still no luck. Tried Admin as well. Same error. An MS support guy suggested doing a "Clean Boot" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135 But did not specify whether I should do a clean boot, upgrade and then reset back to normal or what the sequence should be. Since I have an OEM version of Win 8, upgraded to 8.1 and linked to the hardware I don't think I can do a clean install and have Windows activated properly using the OEM key retrieved using the VBS script. Any ideas anyone?
G+_Derek Anderson
Worked perfect for me. I downloaded the "media creation tool" and ran it, but just selected the option to do a direct upgrade rather than create a media. It installed perfect. Sorry, you're having trouble. ?
