G+_Jason Hammond
Raspberry pi question. I am looking to use a Raspberry pi to assist with some RPG games using the website http://roll20.net. I want to make the raspberry pi as a laptop. It doesn't seem to be as simple as pull an old motherboard from an old laptop and replace it with the pi. Most tutorials and forums I have found show you how to use an old laptop screen as a screen for the pi. I would like to have more of the laptop style with a cam and mic to use with the virtual table using the website. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Thanks. http://roll20.net
G+_Giligain I.
• these are a few links from one of my collections...it may help, but not sure if these will work for RPG. Raspberry Pi Pixel OS released operating system for old Mac and PC < https://plus.google.com/110690680341063574122/posts/iHNMRsdyD2h > From the comments: I downloaded it, it wasn't installable. Not too useful w/o a lot of backing support. (I'd use the debian rather than this). G+_Jason Hammond
Giligain I.? Thanks. I will check these out. The website runs in any browser. There is nothing to install. I have found it interesting and opens up the ability to play with friends without coordinating a place to go. I have tested the website on one of my pi 3's and it works flawlessly. I figured setting g the pi up as a laptop would be an easy portable way to take a pi on the go. (I seen the tutorials to make a pi tablet using the 7 inch touch screens out there, but want more screen and camera and audio for the maps and chatting with the players)
G+_Ben Reese
My first thought is the Motorola Lapdock. No experience with it, but there are tutorials on making it work with the Raspberry Pi. I believe it uses mini HDMI for the display and Micro USB OTG for the keyboard/track pad. There are a few on Ebay starting around $60. The Ben Heck Show has done a couple Pi laptop projects. One kit called "Novena", and I think they did a custom built Pi Top (or maybe that was another kit). Here's the Novena build: And, some have reused old laptops. You'd have to find a encoder board (sorry, I don't remember the technical term, but I've looked them up in the past) and you should be able to find one for your laptop's display. It will convert the HDMI from the Pi into a signal that drives the display. Then you'll also need to convert the laptop and touch pad ribbon cables into USB. Sounds like a great project!
