G+_Daniel Bultema
So, after the most recent episode about port forwarding I figured I'd ask about something I've been trying to get working well for some time now. Me and my two roommates each have an Xbox One and enjoy playing online with each other when we can. When playing games like Black Ops 3 Zombies or Destiny it is nearly impossible. We've spent countless times hard resetting the Xboxes and the router to get a decent NAT type (Often one Open and the other two Moderate) which works sometimes? with the Upnp on my router. I know those games are quite strict with the ports they use, and even Microsoft uses. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I currently use a TP-Link OnHub router, but am seriously considering a Synology. Thanks to anyone that can help.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Do you know what sort of bandwidth and latency you get when all 3 of you are trying to play at the same time? QOS is a BIG deal when dealing with multiple users on the same connection, unless you're lucky and a 500mb/s or 1gb/s connection, then I'm kinda jelly. G+_Daniel Bultema
We're usually running around 90Mb/s down 30Mb/s up with around 60ms latency on each console when we're? all trying to play together, even when I'm streaming. But that's when we can all connect which is the bigger issue. I wish I could get a 1Gb/s where I live but it's not available yet.
G+_Travis Hershberger
That's not terrible speed or latency numbers. My other thought is that your router just might not be up to handling things, are you seeing the same problem with every game you try to play together? G+_Ben Reese
I looked around some and it seems others are having success with just enabling UPnP and letting the Xbox open the ports it needs. UPnP is generally considered a security issue, but may work for what you need. I seem to remember Padre mention that the Synology router could limit UPnP to specific devices - may be worth looking into. Some said they had success with port triggering too. I think it's somehow similar to UPnP, but you limit it to specific ports.
