G+_Kevin Spitzer (JaguarXT
Originally shared by Jeff Jarvis I just filled out a survey about Google Glass. Boy, I didn't realize quite how dissatisfied a customer I am until I did that. Very dissatisfied. Yes, it's a cute thing to show off. But I'm finding it just too awkward to use. The only reason I didn't return it -- which I'm regretting now -- is to give my students a go at it when school starts. I tried to cover an event with them on last weekend and it was unworkable. Sorry, Glass, but your survey only made me realize how much I don't like your product. I wish the survey had a blank space for suggestions. If it had, I'd have said that Glass is really three things: (1) a means of recording what one sees, (2) a means of getting alerts, (3) a means of getting instructions, such as directions. Rethink the functionality and utility from that level. When the survey asked about the apps that already exist and new apps we'd want to see, it occurred to me that they are victim of shovelware syndrome: Recreating old functionality in a new context. I'd have thought Google would dig down deeper than that. Love my Android phone and Android table and Chromebook Pixel (though it is freezing a lot lately). But Glass? Keep trying. I've defended the state Glass is in, saying it's just a Newton, which was awkward and unworkable but it led to so much. I'm eager to see whether Glass -- fundamentally rethought -- can go. But in this incarnation, the use is limited.
