G+_Kevin Spitzer (JaguarXT
Originally shared by Jason Salas To put Google's Chromecast sales into perspective: when DVDs first came out in 1997, around 400,000 players were sold in the first six months. It took two years for half that amount of VHS players to sell a decade earlier+. Two days ago, reportedly++ over 700,000 Chromecast dongles were moved in four hours - less than a full day after Sundar Pichai 's presentation. And that's just from Amazon.com , not counting Best Buy and Google Play . By now, over 3 million units may have moved. That's quite the network. Sure, the $35 price point has a lot to do with it...but this is nonetheless a massive, massive commercial win. And should must be commended. It's likely historic. +Source: "Netflixed: The Epic Battle for America's Eyeballs" ++Source: Dan McDermott , Google Plus Week TV Show , July 27 http://asset0.cbsistatic.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim2/2013/07/25/Google_Chromecast_35823617_06_620x433.jpg
G+_Paul Tobeck
700K? I would have guessed that number much lower for Amazon as quickly as they sold out. You go Google!
G+_Jonathan R
Poor comparison. DVD players cost a mint in 1997. Chromcast is only $35.
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Chromecast will kill Smart Tv and Blu Ray's but without true mirroring is not a Apple TV killer. And on a day to day use not being able to be control directly but needing a phone/tablet/PC could be a pain. Still IMHO Gaming Consoles are and will be the Kings of the living room... G+_Robert Nugent (DFH)
Also a poor comparison because the content for the Chromecast is already vast. How many DVDs were available at the player's launch?

G+_Michael Interbartolo
you should be able to mirror pretty much any media website so that means Hulu, ABC, CBS and others will work via cast. I still have my 1997 Sony DVP-7000 DVD player as my prime dvd player. yeah there weren't many DVDs available back then. price and portability makes it easy to take it on travel. G+_Daryl Hunt
Just imagine how many might have been sold if they were made available outside the USA.
