G+_Charles Cangialosi
I want to extend the WiFi signal out to my porch. The current signal just about makes it but could be better. On Amazon there are many WiFi repeaters some good ones for about $30. I do have a D-Link DIR-655 that I am not using. Is it possible to make this the repeater? If so how. I downloaded the manual and don't see a way. It seems to me if I just turn of DHCP and set it to my network settings that should work. I don't want to go through a lot of trouble to do this so spending the $30 might just be easier. Any suggestions. Thanks; Charlie
G+_James Casalino
Here is a forum post about it. It doesn't go click by click, but does give you the important info. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1520730 Modes on a wifi router would make a great know how. There are also open source firmware you can flash that will allow you to do pretty much anything with your router, but I have never been willing to spend the time to do it. Hope this helps. G+_Charlie Cangialosi
Thanks, great forum link. One last question. What if I can't plug in the DIR-655 (router I want to use as the repeater) to the DSL modem. I just want to extend the WiFi signal. In other words set the 655 up as described in he forum and just put it on the other sided of the house. Will it still extend the signal?
G+_Dan Phillips
I'm pretty sure you can install dd wrt on the D-link router which will give you the option to run the router in bridge mode. One of the first episodes had some information on this.

G+_Dean Chauvin
Perfect timing. I'm having similar problems with this, too. I'd like to use my Belkin N+ router as a repeater for a 2Wire DSL wireless gateway (also known as a piece of $@*).
G+_Collin Winans
One thing to keep in mind is that a wireless bridge will halve the wireless speed to devices connected at the far end of the bridge. Use a wired connection whenever possible to keep networking speeds optimized. Also, look around your home for a better place to put your existing router. Sometimes, finding a higher/ more central location will have a significant effect on wireless range and reliability.
G+_Marc Kline
If you're feeling adventurous, you can explore replacing the antenna on your router with a more powerful one. Won't have to be too adventurous if your router has a detachable antenna with a standard connector.
