G+_Matt Bonnett
I wanted to make a comment in regards to the Chrome talk on #345. Leo made a comment about Chrome not being available on RT because of different possible factors. Primarily due to architecture differences. First off Chrome and ChromeOS are built off the same codebase mostly. The new HP Chromebook 11 is ARM based same as RT. This implies Chrome/ChromeOS has been written for the ARM platform (although one could nitpick that with ARM there's other very pertinent albeit tiny details to cover such as what ARM family is used and needs to be built for. ie: ARMv4, v5, v7, etc.. Also, the open source comment and throwing in the Mozilla foundation as an example shouldn't be a difference but a similarity. Much like the Mozilla foundation, Chrome is fully open source as Chromium but Google brands, builds, and releases Chrome from that source. Anyone can take Chromium and build their own version of Chrome for ARM if desired. Even ChromeOS for that matter. So it is not entirely impossible to get Chrome on RT. And it could be argued a lot of the work has already been done for this. Question if why it hasn't been done yet? Side note still on topic: Is it possible on RT to sideload apps without using the app store? ie: You properly build and compile an app that will run on it but bypass the store entirely. G+_Colin Willson
You can install metro apps that are not on the app store (not very many of those, mostly demo apps) through powershell using various commands.
