For those of you that use (struggle more like it) with the standard 'helping hands', here's a MUCH better solution.  And with fine adjustment.

I have about 3 of the reg helping hands and they always droop, can't hold any weight, never tighten enough.

When soldering a ribbon cable, to connetor or non-wires, etc.  If you like them, fine.  I find the dial indicator holders exponentially better then the helping hands, offer more uses and versatility  and strength without all the modifications.

 

And can't agree more about the hover-over (overuse)
