G+_Eddie Foy
Quick SPF question. I've seen SPF cables. Can I just use a cable between switches in a rack without a SPF module in the slots? If I need modules, will a 10Gb talk to a 1Gb? (right now I'm using 3 Rj45 ports with link aggregation turned on, but that 4 wasted ports) Catalyst 2960 <-> 3750
G+_Travis Hershberger
Well, sure, you can use the other ports to connect the switches. The SPF ports are normally there to support different modules for fiber connections.
G+_Jason Marsh
In addition to what Travis Hershberger said, you can also use multiple ethernet links to bump the bandwidth available between switches using Link Aggregation. I did this between a (DD-)WRT54G and a ProSafe switch, and it worked like a charm.

G+_Jason Marsh
When you get that copper closet set up you know we're going to need to see some cable porn ;)
G+_Eddie Foy
Of course! Just welded up a second rack. One for networking one for computing/NAS. For the most part. Will have the RasPis in the network rack; easier cable runs, up a slot.
G+_Eddie Foy
Damn! Saw full height (6 foot+?) racks at hamvention for $50. And NICE near perfect condition. No sides, and need to buy the pop in square nuts. But I'm kinda happy I didn't have a car that could xport it/them home. Guy had 3 or 4 of them. G+_Travis Hershberger
3 or 4 workable racks for $50 each? Excuse me whilst I pick myself up off of the floor.
G+_Eddie Foy
Yup. If there on sunday could get for a jingle (as opposed to the $50 'song' )
