G+_Eddie Foy
On the home automation front: Looking for suggestions for a TV and AV receiver with a simple API over wired Ethernet. (even a basic curl command is fine) Requirements: Change to inputs directly, not cycle through them. Change audio level directly not multiple up/downs. (ie: go to 30% volume) My current ones will do the direct input change via IR, but not the volume (and neither are Ethernet capable)
G+_T Burns
So, are you looking for a replacement AV receiver that has this capability or are you looking for a solution that would integrate Ethernet into your current setup? I have an Onkyo receiver and downloaded an program that allows me to control it from my computer over the network in the way you're describing. G+_Eddie Foy
Replacement. Integrating would be a bear. On the Onkyo, does it have an open API? I'm not looking for an 'app'. I already have a semi extensive HA system, and rather it be an extension of it. Multiple apps kinda sucks. I'm currently using a Global Cache Ethernet attached IR blaster controlling most of the system. I can click a web button and turn on the xbox, receiver, ramp audio (but its just the up/down from an unknown position) and swap TV inputs. (even have it with delays, so the TV switches after the Xbox is all booted and ready to play) Need to get the Sonos in the system. Roku already is. G+_T Burns
There is an API but you kinda have to contact Onkyo for it for the particular receiver you get. It took about 45 days for me to get an answer back from them, but I finally got it. I created a command line script on my computer to automatically start playing a preset Christmas station from Pandora on the Net input on my Onkyo each morning over Christmas. There is a little program called OYRemote ( http://www.flipswitchingmonkey.com/tools/oyremote/ ) that you can play around with that gives plain txt logs showing what commands are sent with each function including a live log feed. There's also a lot of info out there on the internets about the api's for onkyo and how to tie into them.
