G+_George Kozi
Paul Thurrott Okay, the jig is up. Nobody can ever again convince me that the Windows 8 design is well thought out. What am I talking about? Well, here it is: in order to take a screenshot within Windows 8, screenshot that is automatically saved to your "Screenshots" folder, you have to use the Windows+PrtScr key combination. Innocuous key combination isn't it? No it isn't! Because the windows key is used to navigate between the desktop and Metro. Try jamming the PrtScr key next to that circus... The moment you touch the Windows key, it switches away from whatever you wanted to capture... And Microsoft themselves built it that way.
G+_Colin Nelson
If I'm reading this correct, George Kozi, does that mean that all my well loved WinKey + * keyboard combinations do not work in Windows 8? I use: Win + E, Win + R, Win + D, Win + Up/Left/Right/Down Arrow, Win + L, and Win + P constantly. Are you saying that all of those combinations no longer work because it switches to the Desktop, or is it just the PrintScreen function that is exhibiting this behavior? G+_George Kozi
Never tried those. I'm just wrestling with the screen capture, and I get only about 10% of the attempts to work. What's worse in that I can't predict when it will work and when not. There is always a quick sequence in pressing those keys, you can't do it simultaneously... G+_George Kozi
I'm noticing that the win key action is triggered on the release of the key, not on pressing it... Maybe I'm just doing something wrong...
G+_Jonathan Jesse
Wouldn't you use snipping tool for screen shots?
G+_George Kozi
I never used that before... My keyboard has this specialized key just for capturing screenshots... Ah well, maybe I'm just stubborn.

G+_George Kozi
I would have to test it if it works inside full screen MMO's... Most of the captures I want to make are in that sort of place. That's what makes me so mad. I'm in the middle of action in a game, I want to capture the screen, I press that key combo and windows kicks me out of the game and puts me in bloody Metro (without capturing the screen). G+_Colin Nelson
Does the Alt + PrintScrn still work (capture only the active window)?

G+_Damian Mongru
I'm a bit confused as to what is happening here, and I haven't got Win8 so I can't try it. Is this what is happening: You're using a programme on the desktop. You press (and hold) the Win key (nothing happens yet) You tap PrtScrn* You release the Win key. Is it at this point you are sent back to the Start Screen? If so, that is not good. *I'm just wondering if the screen capture part works properly i.e. when you tap PrtScrn the screenshot is copied to the clipboard/saved in the screenshots folder.
