Did the windows 10 announcement go well? Reading all the comments on the various feeds it seems there are a lot of confused people, seeing a lot of the following queries:-

"Free for 1st year but do I then have to pay a subscription after that?"

"What if you're not entitled to the free upgrade, how much will Win10 be?"

"Are there different versions for the PC?"

"They say it'll be valid for the life of the device, what if my motherboard fails, will I have to buy a new OS licence?"

Impressive stuff IMHO windows 10 running on phones, tablets, pc and xbox one. With the Internet of things coming Microsoft is position itself as a mayor player with on core that can communicate between themselves.

And their AR headset makes more sense than Oculus since it can be use in the real world, impressive stuff from Microsoft. They have a place in the future a big one...

My view is that Windows is going down the data mining route where M$ can have a unified way of storing tracking data on you: The M$ Store account. If you offered Windows 10 with the M$ store account being optional, then I'd feel a little less resistant on an upgrade. Still won't change though the guarantee that the new Windows will lock out the Hosts file like Android KitKat did in it's infancy.

It's more likely they are going the Apple route with much cheaper upgrade fees to the same core version of Windows, rather than huge, major version releases at high prices. One key item for those in business is that the free upgrade offer does not cover the Enterprise editions, or RT. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/about
