G+_Peter Cupitt
Anybody had any issues installing certain packages on Windows 8 Pro + SSD? Had some weirdness recently trying to install LibreOffice and Windows Essentials 2012. They either won't run, or in the case of WE2012, get to 34% and it just hangs. Made sure UAC settings are all the way down and even try running as administrator. Any help is much appreciated! (By the way, I do have some data redirected through symlinks to another drive, but it's really just Docs, Pics, etc., nothing major).
G+_Jason Honingford
I bet it's a Java issue. The most common is Windows referencing the 64 bit Java libraries, where LibreOffice probably needs the 32 bit. If you make the JAVA_HOME system PATH point to the 32 bit JRE you may be ok. I have not installed Windows 8 yet.
G+_Ryan Sinclair
Jason Honingford thanks. I changed the JAVA_HOME variable but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the Windows Essentials 2012 installer. I was able to get around the LibreOffice issue by using Ninite to install it. Go figure.
G+_Ryan Sinclair
really crazy - I can't uninstall or install most anything. ARGH.
G+_Jerry Ham
A lot of apps are sensitive to My Documents. You say you have it redirected with a symlink (file system link). Could you try redirecting it the standard way instead (by either changing the registry or using the GUI to relocate it). That may well take care of the problem. (Although if it does I will stipulate that the installer code is just stupid; it should work no matter how you redirected it).
G+_Ryan Sinclair
Something just got hosed with my install. I did a "refresh" and it cleared it up. Jerry Ham I'm sorry, I actually was using the gui to redirect. I set all my folders back to their defaults last night but it didn't make any difference. Couldn't uninstall Java,. Net or anything. Weird.
