G+_Eddie Foy
Just a FYI, my Synology RS815+ died within 5 months. Synology RMA'd it. There is a serial console port on the back that the manual says 'factory use', but I was having IP issues 1/2 way though the switch over (I had no IP ) Popped a serial connection to it and presto! Console shell even after it was booted. Standard 8,1,N @ 115K baud. (Just remember a while back, the serial port in post)
G+_Travis Hershberger
Good old serial ports, seem to just work. I've got a label printer at work that would be broken constantly without access to that serial port.
G+_Eddie Foy
I just wish RS485 won over RS232. 232 in comparison blows chunks.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Eddie Foy Well of course it's better, the number is bigger! Just can't help myself sometimes.
G+_Jason Perry
Eddie Foy Well that is a good piece of info for when I screw up my DS214play. the console port on mine is hiding in a vent.
G+_Eddie Foy
Jason Perry I remember someone here talking/asking about it! I didn't have it hooked up /on during boot to see if there is a boot option(s)
G+_Jason Perry
That was me when I got my box. Haven't tried to do anything with it yet probably because I haven't broke it yet. I figure if I start poking at it I will just end up screwing something up. Just give me time and I'll end up needing it.
G+_Eddie Foy
Actually nothing. By the time I found the serial adapter, it had gotten an IP. (I think it was just doing some maint from HDs being swapped into a new unit) I just ran ifconfig and saw it got an IP. Had it not at that point, just use ifconfig to fix the problem. Its a full BusyBox shell.
