G+_Ben Reese
Is that normal for pilot registration or something special just for hobbiests?
G+_Eddie Foy
We're are not registering pilots but the vehicles. DMV doesn't. FCC does this with their registrations too.
G+_Ben Reese
Interesting. I guess they do. Just looked up a friend's call sign and his address is listed by the FCC. I could almost see a reason for this in HAM registration though (ALMOST). As a HAM, you can provide a big public service in case of national disaster. G+_Eddie Foy
The HAM disaster thing is over rated. The gov't is well equipped, but does happen/is needed at times. If you wanna find an address from a callsign, there are way better sites (easier to use) then the FCC's
G+_Ben Reese
I actually just Google his ID and the FCC link was one of the first. That was easy enough for me.
G+_Adam EL-Idrissi
I'm pretty sure its "pilot" registration since you get one "sign" for all your crafts. Considering we have horrible data laws(too much publically available like tax info,DMV info, home puchaces etc) I'm just going to stay under the minimum weight for registration or not register at all. The faa isn't very smart; say you don't like Jon Smith or Jane doe doesn't like you. Go to the faa drone site, look up the number put it on a drone and go fly or crash it where it doesn't belong. Now someone is going to have a really bad time.
G+_Mick Carson
Fuck the drones! Give me a Quadcopter. Drone my ass.? If you hadn't called Quadcopters drones you'd have continued to enjoy the hobby. No, you have to call them drones, as if they are weapons of mass destructions. How fucking stupid is that?? G+_Eddie Foy
Wayne Hobbins the penalties are upto $27K and 3 years
G+_Ben Reese
Mick Carson? I argued the same thing for the longest time, but as Wayne Hobbins? said, the dictionary has been updated to match the publics opinion. Miriam Websters now says "an unmanned aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers", whereas before it referred only to computer piloted aircraft. Which, to be fair, could include things like the DJI that can be pre-programmed for a route.
G+_Eddie Foy
Why would impersonating a UAV vs stansard pilot need to be differentiated in the criminal law? The US Industrial Prison Complex needs more 'citizens' (Bill Gates could use some more cash)
G+_Steve C
So has anyone been foolish enough to register? Even if I had something that would fly instead of just a pile of broken model airplane parts I don't think I'd register it. I wouldn't want everyone coming to my house every time some kid was causing problems because I was the only one in the area who registered. Most of them are toys and since this isn't a dictatorship the FAA doesn't have the authority to make all the kids register their toys anyway. G+_Steve C
So it hasn't started yet? Well is anyone going to be foolish enough to register when it starts?

G+_Eddie Foy
I see the prob as knowing and showing PPI for NO good reason. Making your address public has zero value. For LEO? The FAA is LEO. But then if its public, I guess it won't be a 'breech' . Offer up all for public view and then there is nothing to be 'hacked' (sounds like OPM's 'security)
G+_Steve C
Wayne, if the AMA wins why would it only benefit AMA members and not everyone? You know there aren't any kids that will ever register since they don't believe in that kind of thing so why should we?
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Mick Carson last warning... tone it down. stop the ranting. Understood?
G+_Jeff Brand
Just a point of clarification on the AMA's current efforts: Their press release points out that there are currently open cases on whether any new rules against model UAS are legal, including registration. The outcome may nullify the registration regulation. Separately, the organization is pursuing a process for their members to use.
G+_Eddie Foy
Does the AMA have enough clout and cash to fight in court? I'd be surpised if they had that kind of cash in the coffers and then question why
G+_Jeff Brand
The cases may not be their own but will set the legal precedent that affects us all. Looking for some examples now...

G+_Eddie Foy
Wayne Hobbins $5 reg fee isn't worth fighting over. They aren't banning UAVs, not even really restricting them (55lbs is a BIG UAV) I don't see them losing any biz over a $5 reg fee on a $1-8K UAV. outside of the money grab, I'm only concerned with the public posting of PPI. G+_Eddie Foy
I searched the AMA website and couldn't find their tax returns. I emailed the pres asking for them. I'd love to see their financials.
