RC BATTERIES & CHARGERS

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A DISCUSSION ON WHAT PEOPLE ARE USING

I could be blind but other than a recommendation of type - I did not see much discussion on what is the best way to charge or maintain or information on best chargers, batteries etc.

What are you using?

What charger do you use?

Have you had good luck with the batteries and charger?

So for the newbs like me that came from NICad years ago - PS: EVERYTHING has changed. And here are a few things you should know that I did not know and wish I had known.

- Balancing of batteries is something you should know about

- Charge rates seems to be very important - as in destroy your batteries important

Adapters from chargers to XT60 connectors are nowhere to be found as I have seen - and you either have to make your own or convert your XT60 to another connector?

Is there any reason not to use another battery connector - I used to use the Tamiya ones for years - I use all kinds of connectors daily in my normal job of building police and fire vehicles, I cannot see why the XT60 is any better, or worse than the other that seem to be much more RC standard (I would love to hear some input)

Hopefully this diagram helps others to get caught up on battery tech and answers some questions for others..... or at least start a discussion on what others are using and why....

Wayne Hobbins That is a great write up....

This is even more great..

Charging Case/Bag - LiPos should NEVER be charged in an open space for safety reasons.  If something goes wrong within a LiPo, it will quite literally shoot flames out of it, easily setting anything on fire.  Most people charge their LiPos in LiPo bags, which are padded, fireproof sleeves that can vent smoke out but keep flames in.  I, however prefer the ammo box method, mostly because it looks much cooler and properly scares people.  For illustrative purposes of this Instructable, I am charging my LiPos in open air, but I would never do so otherwise, as keeping your LiPos safe while charging is probably the most important thing you can do to.

I still looking into a charger that fits my needs and budget. This is my current choice. Like the OP's Onyx, it comes with a 5 year warranty.  Something about the old school, analogy knobs that I like. Plus it's similar in looks to my Hitec 1S 4 port battery charger.
