G+_610GARAGE
Wow, I'm glad to see the detail and debug info in windows errors. Rolls eyes at microsoft.
G+_Phil Chung
Yeah, I had whenever I tried to upgrade through the Media Creation Tool. In the end I downloaded the ISO. I still got a similar error (small white dialogue though) when I tried to upgrade. Not downloading updates before installation did the trick for me. G+_Steven Atkinson
I got this when I ran the tool as a standard user, even though it asked for the admin password. Logging in as an admin and running it again proceeded further. I stopped the process after the download and before the actual install as it was getting late and I needed to sleep! I'll be trying again today.
G+_Brent Burzycki
I too had no issues upgrading in place... On a laptop... I assume this is realated somewhat to load and users trying to get win 10...or it is broken...
G+_Steven Atkinson
Running the upgrade as an administrator worked fine. There was another post elsewhere that mentioned changing language to US.

G+_Scott Baker
I got the same thing - maybe it was because I was running as a standard user? You would think Microsoft could make a program that works running as a standard user though.
G+_Steven Atkinson
Scott Baker whilst that would be convenient in this case it would be a massive security issue. If Microsoft could re-write the entire operating system (i.e. the upgrade it) then it would not be long before someone worked out how to re-write any system file without notification or permission. Don't forget the upgrade is a one off event that you are not likely to repeat more than once on each computer you own. What should have happened is for the tool to catch this error earlier and tell you to log on as an administrator first or actually work properly through UAC. G+_Brent Burzycki
Pretty sure I had a UAC prompt at the beginning of the usage of the tool - so I do not think that was it - I noticed there was no error when I reduced the size of the thumb drive I was using from 64gb to 8gb
G+_Steven Atkinson
I did get the UAC prompt but then the tool fell over with this error. When I logged in as an administrator then it worked.
