G+_Chris O'Riley
Just finished making an aluminum RaspberryPi Zero case, to go with the copper one I made last year. The copper one was for the original Zero. Shortly after that, I picked up a 1.3 version with the camera connector and so I just had to update the case. Copper tarnishes incredibly quickly, so I went with aluminum this time around. While it won't look nearly as pretty, I think I'll have to make one more in plastic to work with the new wireless version... whenever I can get my hands on one! G+_Damien Wessling
Fantastic result! What was your method of construction? Machined from solid billet?
G+_Chris O'Riley
Thanks Robert and Damien! Yes, milled out of solid bars of material. I threw together a quick page last year detailing the copper case here: http://www.chris3d.com/copperpi/ And here's a quick video of my mill, just testing the flood coolant setup. It's a Taig MicroMill, in a DIY enclosure:
G+_Jamie Genet
How does the copper one look nowadays?
G+_Chris O'Riley
Huh, I replied, but it seems to have gone missing! The copper looks great, so long as I don't touch it or if I give it a quick polish after handling it. That's fine though, I knew that would happen, I really made it from copper just because I love the look of it. I still plan to look into some type of clear coat to protect it. In the mean time, I'll just use the aluminum one.
