Can it fix WIN 8 mess?

'Tiles' as a thing is not an inherently terrible idea. I felt the main problem was that you couldn't stay in the Metro environment, you needed the desktop for Windows Explorer, certain control panel settings etc. Which meant it is incomplete.

As for RT and PRO versions they will need RT for use with ARM tablets, so they will need to keep it around*.

Jeremy Petzold  I do trust Paul Thurrott. However, ever since the WIN8 Previews he has said that there was no problem with Metro and Windows Desktop in the same computer as it was the same OS, even though everyone else was complaining about a jarring between the two UIs.

I am not sure how adapting the UI to the device actually works. For example, what UI should a touch screen all-in-one have, as it comes with a keyboard, mouse, trackpad and touchscreen out of the box.

*If we assume there are three main form factors - smartphone, tablet and laptop/desktop then everyone else put their mobile OS on smartphones and tablets and their desktop OS elsewhere. (e.g. iOS and OSX). This seems fine as a tablet and smartphone are very closely related. MS are pushing this tablet as a productivity device and have a phone OS, and a desktop OS running everywhere else. This isn't as stupid as it first sounds as a lot of people were using a tablet instead of a laptop but this was because they do not have huge needs - i.e. web, social networking and email. So, if the rumours of Windows are to be believed there will be a coalescing of RT and Windows Phone into a single, touch friendly OS.

Anyway, safe to say Tiles are in Microsoft's future, but we are reading far too much into a logo that is only a mockup.
