G+_David Dunn (tanker405th
Hello Know-it-alls, I'm looking for suggestions on creating and managing backups. I'm building/experimenting with a small Linux server box that I would like to store the backups on. I have a Linux desktop and several Windows laptops that I would like to backup on a regular basis, and have the older backups be deleted as new ones are added. Any suggestions on where and for what to look at? Thanks!
G+_Steven Atkinson
You could look at http://www.cyberciti.biz/open-source/awesome-backup-software-for-linux-unix-osx-windows-systems/ it may help point. I've used Amanda in the past, it's great strength was that it used standard tools for the backup. That meant that if the worst happened you could recover your files from just about any system going. G+_610GARAGE
I use BackupPC. I found it easier to set up than amanda and Bacula. But to backup windows mingw needs to be installed. Although, I think it can also backup windows shares too. http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/
