G+_Russell Williams
Quick Question. Does anyone either Know How, to create an ICS file containing a bunch of Dates/Events? I want to create a file that can be imported to Google/Outlook Calendars that will contain a year's worth of events. Or where there's a tutorial/explanation? Thanks much
G+_John Mink
No idea, never looked at the ics calendar details. But if I were interested, I'd find an ics (maybe your current calendar), download it from wherever, and open it in a simple text editor like notepad. G+_Jason Marsh
Do you have the events in a calendar already? What program are you using for calendars now?
G+_Jeff Brand
ICS files are text files with a series of lines for each event. Depending on the source data that your events are in, you can definitely automate the conversion. If you tell us what sort of data you're starting with, and perhaps your preferred programming language/environment for the conversion then we could help from there. G+_Russell Williams
Thanks all Jeff Brand in particular. Here's the scenario I have a bunch of dates, Pay Days, Nat'l Holidays (which are not covered by UK/US calendars) etc. which I'd like to have in a file that can easily be imported to a Google Calendar/Outlook Calendar As for programming language wow, I haven't done any serious programming since I was in short pants and that was C. But I'm learning Python now, so if you have something you can send in either I hopefully would be able to get the gist. Thanks again!
G+_Jeff Brand
Google for Python ICS and see what's out there. I found some PHP code pretty easily. As Wayne says, get busy typing. Structure the data in a spreadsheet so that you can export it into CSV/TSV easily. General spec info on ICS will tell you what fields they want. It's up to you if you want to go for a single recurring event and use ICS to repeat them, or create many single events. The Python automation will mainly be processing the source and outputting the final version, with a little bit of data cleanup in the middle.
