G+_Graham Green
Hi Know How Community, I have a small network at home that has your standard stuff there, a NAS, a Raspberry Pi PBX, a couple of other Raspberry Pi's for Home craft automation. I have set up another raspberry pi to monitor the machines on the network and send email should one of these go down. Currently I am just doing this by a python script that pings the machines every half hour and then reports on no response. Not the best way, I am looking for ideas please. G+_Travis Hershberger
Maybe look at zabbix for the monitoring rpi.
G+_Jason Brown
You might try nagios. Though I'm not sure if there's a version for raspberry pi. The ISP I worked for used a nagios/cacti combo to monitor our towers.

G+_Graham Green
Thanks guys, I thought Nagios might be a bit overkill. But maybe!!
G+_Jared Twomey
Install smokeping on the pi. It gives you latency graphs and can alert on packet loss.
G+_Jason Brown
Yeah, nagios definitely takes a little extra time to setup.
