Gents, after seeing the Surveillance Station side of things on the synology, (the same is on the QNAP) I would like to set up some monitoring around the house. But.... any recommendations on reasonably priced external POE cameras that I could use for under eave mounting, would be for perimeter monitoring only.

I'm curious too. I wonder how much of an impact of self-lighting PIRs will affect POE. (E.g. can POE support 5 PIRs, 10 or 20, or in the worse case just 1?)

I like the Amcrest cameras so far from what I've seen. Here's a shot I just took from the one in my back yard. I'm standing about 15 ft from it.

 

Edit: oh.... Amcrest is supported on Synology beginning, I believe, with DSM 6.0. The XPenology VM I've been playing with is 5.4 (or something) and I couldn't get the camera to register.

Check out Reolink they have some 1440P camerars for just around 100 (POE versions) works well with surveillance stations, however you only get 2 camera support. If you want to add more cameras, you have to pay
