G+_Aaron Bishop
Looking for my next mouse. I'm on my 2nd Logitech M705 in about 3 years (2 years so far on this one) and it started having issues with the left button sporadically clicking (double clicks instead of single, 0-1 ms apart). After taking it apart and cleaning it with compressed air it seems to behave so far, but I'd like to start looking for a replacement. My last one just stopped clicking altogether. I'm looking for a similar sized mouse (about the size of the M705), right handed preferred. Scroll wheel is preferred, forward/back button desired, and prefer laser. Wired would be fine, no bluetooth. I don't do gaming very often and would use it as my day to day work mouse (programming, but some graphics from time to time). Any suggestions? I'd like it to last for more than a couple years.
G+_Ben Reese
I'm still using a generic wireless mouse from 8 years ago. It's unfortunate that a name brand like Logitech can't get it right. I got a cheap Tecknet off Amazon about a year ago that works good too and it fits in my laptop bag. Also feels pretty good in the hand. Mine is bluetooth, but they have a regular wireless option too. Best part is the price... $10 on Amazon means you can buy 2 or 3 for the price of that Logitech.
G+_Damien Wessling
Aaron, you're in the Logitech club once you get the left buttonitis... I've been using Logitech mice from way back in the day when 'real' mice had balls! (sorry, that's 1995 lol) The were the only 3 button mouse available then, required for CAD drafting. The left button thing is frustrating, I have no less than 4 MX Revolution mice with the same issue (which can be repaired by replacing the buttons) but I've found the performance and features of the MX so compelling against the others (cost aside, I acknowledge Ben's point) that I can't change brands. The MX Revolution has been superseded by the MX Master. I find it a bit less 'natural' in the hand than the Revolution but still good. The deal breaker for me is the Hypershift feature with the scroll wheel. I can say categorically, once you get used to working with that feature, you're never going back... Never! It's an absolute pleasure to use. It's programmable, laser, rechargeable, fully adjustable etc. I have 4 in service on different machines currently and a spare in the closet. Not a gamer but I use mice a lot and if you're ok spending a bit more than the 705 I think you'll be glad you did.
G+_Aaron Bishop
Ben Reese All good, but I have to admit to being a Logitech peripherals fanboy like Damien Wessling. I've loved their stuff since my first eBay purchase in the late 90s of a Logitech PS/2 wireless keyboard and ball mouse. That thing could communicate 40 feet away through 3 walls, though I doubt it was encrypted like today's standards would demand. Since then I've always prefer their mice, keyboards, even gaming controllers because of the way they feel and how well they work. For now I became the maintainer of the Arch Linux xf86-input-evdev-debounce AUR package which mitigates the problem at the driver level. Apparently the patch has been around for ages but hasn't been incorporated into upstream because "you need to get a better mouse". IDK, I've read that the microswitches are actually decent quality. Maybe Logitech users are just heavy clickers?
G+_Aaron Bishop
So I had to start using my work's Mac again today and it doesn't have a debounce driver that I can find in the first couple pages of google (though my search history is affecting it heavily). I ordered a http://a.co/1dGH7zm which is nice because it is wired so I don't have to worry about poor wireless security from cheap chinese products. amazon.com - Amazon.com: TeckNet Raptor Gaming Mouse, 2000 DPI, 6 Button, Extra Weight: Computers & Accessories
