G+_Chad Willams
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ? So I've run into a slight problem with my Alien X build. I'm not using the esc's or the pdb you suggested on the show, rather I'm using Afro 30a esc's and the hobbyking power distribution board...and now to where I've got a problem. The power leads of my esc's don't reach all the way to the power board so I'm gonna have to extend them. Will that be ok? I've read so many conflicting things about extending esc to battery wires vs extending esc to motor wires my heads spinning! Any help/advice would be much appreciated! G+_Mr covert
Ok. Just use the same gauge wire.
G+_Michael Heinz
1. Use wire of the same gauge. 2. Be sure to carefully wrap the joins to prevent any chance of a short. Alternately - are you sure you couldn't just slide the ESCs further down the arms, closer to the PDB?
G+_Chad Willams
Michael Heinz I tried sliding the ESCs down the arm and it's a really tight fit and I'd rather not stress the connections. I believe the Afro ESC have 16awg wires but I only have 14awg, would that work or do I just need to buy some 16 gauge? Thanks for the help ? G+_Michael Heinz
Using a larger gauge should be fine, just don't go to a smaller gauge.
G+_Chad Willams
Michael Heinz So upon some more research I have discovered that the Hobbyking PDB has 4x20a connections. I'm using 4x30a Afro ESCs and 4 Emax 2213 935kv motors that Padre recommended for the build. My next question is will my PDB handle the ESCs and motors? I'm also using a 2200mah 3s battery. G+_Michael Heinz
What is the maximum draw of your motors? If your motors draw less than 20A each you should be fine.
G+_Chad Willams
Michael Heinz From what I've found researching the motors, they will pull from 9-14 amps. Their website specs say 9.3something amps but a YouTube video shows it pulling 12-13 amps with the max pull of 14 amps on a test bench he built. So it sounds like I'm gonna be good to go with this PDB ? thanks again for the help!
G+_Michael Heinz
Yup, sounds like the PDB is fine.
