G+_Jim Hofmann
I updated Java. When it finished I actually read the pop-up rather than just clicking thru. It said something about changing their Update policy in 2019/2020. I click on the info link, read the update map and still can't tell what is changing. Are they going to start charging or is this just some legalize? Anyone got a clue. Thanks.
G+_Paul Hutchinson
I hit that a little while ago and was confused by their wording too. IIRC, my research showed that for the basic end user all you should notice is that when the change happens you will move to Long Term Support Version 11. For businesses that can't move to the next LTS version they are offering paid support for updates to extend the life of Long Term Support Version 8. (like Microsoft offers businesses for support life extension of old Windows versions)
G+_Jim Hofmann
Yea, I could see cost in there somewhere but I couldn't figure out how it was applied or why. Thanks.
G+_Ben Tyger
Look at the EoL on each. The only overlap is with Java 8 to Java 11. And the overlap is only 3 months. Industry is going to 'love' this crap.
