I am trying to remotely control a ubuntu 16.04 via a wi-fi hotspot that is not connected to the internet. The equipment using, for the ubuntu 16.04 box is a kangaroo mini computer and the remote control computer is an iPad iOS 11 with termius, on the kangaroo mini I believe I have configured the hotspot as I can see the name I gave the wi-fi hotspot on the iPad. But it still does not work, do I need software like tigerVNC server installed on the ubuntu computer? How do I configure termius on the iPad? Is there an know how episode that goes through the process or a good step by step web site?

On Windows you can create a "Hosted Network". It requires compatible Wi-Fi adapters, but I've never tried one that didn't work.

Setup is all from the command line. Years ago it was rumored that Microsoft would be surfacing the feature in GUI form, but I don't think that ever happened. I've just created batch files on the desktop to turn it on/off.

Also, the PDANET client has controls built-in so you can share your tethered connection with nearby devices.
