G+_Donald Burr
Got my quad parts in, and discovered that my props are clear plastic (i.e. not colored.) I was wondering if it is possible to paint the props... first of all it makes it look cooler, but more practically, by painting each set of props a different color, I can easily tell which is the "front" side of the quad, vs the "back" side. Anyway can props be painted, or would applying paint screw them up in some way (mess up the aerodynamics or balance or something)? Also, if painting is ok, then is there any specific type of paint that I should look for (or avoid)? Would a typical canned spray paint that you can get at the hardware store work? G+_Wayne White
You can buy props in different colors and they're not that expensive. They come in white, black and some in orange. Make sure you get the right length and pitch. I suppose that you could paint them with a good plastic paint, but I would also get a prop balancer to make sure you haven't gotten them out of balance. I removed the battery door on my Syma X5 trainer and that makes the rear end show up better. Props for me kind of disappear when the quad is up in the air. no matter what their color. So painting a contrasting color on the rear of your quad might be a better solution then the colored props.
G+_Travis Hershberger
I know of ways to get completely uniform coverage for paint, but they generally include things like vacuum deposition chambers. While it would be really cool to have/build one of those chambers yourself, I agree with Wayne Hobbins that it's just easier to paint the front/back of the quad itself.
