G+_Donald Burr
Interesting segment about the car hacking dongle. However, I would like to point out that if someone has physical access to your car, they can do a lot of damage/mischief/etc -- including things that could potentially result in injuries or fatalities -- even without access to OBD or CAN. Putting water in the gas tank, messing around with hoses/connections/etc. in the engine compartment, even cutting brake lines. None of those would even require access to the passenger compartment (i.e. the door locks.)
G+_Brent Burzycki
Honestly you do not even need physical access - you can easily destroy or kill occupants without ever touching the vehicle. That said - vehicle system security needs to be enhanced. As someone that was in Law Enforcement, if someone makes a device to hack a car, bad guys will snatch them up till the auto makers resolve the issue. G+_Stephen Butler
If they have physical access, they have most likely stolen it, then the outcome is one of three things, shipped out, chopped up or burnet out . All worst than a little hack prank.
