G+_Donald Burr
Two 3D printing questions... 1) has anyone ever bought from Shapeways.com? Seems to be some sort of 3D-print-on-demand service. There is a guy that has made a custom case for a build-it-yourself function generator that I own; he's selling his case through Shapeways, and I am thinking of ordering it since unfortunately I can't quite afford a 3D printer of my own right now. 2) What do you recommend for a good starter 3D printer for a guy on a budget? I see Padre is really into the Da Vinci Jr., and at $350, that is a price point that is reasonable for my budget; however I've heard some somewhat negative things about them, that they are very proprietary/not open, etc. Comments/suggestions? G+_Travis Hershberger
If budget is an issue, but not time or expertise, then I'd be all about a rep-rap. Look em up online, it's really what I remember starting the 3D printer craze.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
1. Shapeways is awesome... but it takes time and can get expensive. 2. The only proprietary part is the NFC chip... and I've already defeated that part. :)
