G+_James Whittaker
In a few weeks, I will be able to move my internet service from Spectrum to Google Fiber. My girlfriend recently made the move and experienced a lot of trouble connecting her TP Link smartplugs. I have 9 of these plugs, 4 tvs, 4 Amazon Firesticks, a NEST thermostat and 3 Amazon Echos connected to my network. I would like to use my existing wifi name and password. I have no special things setup on my network. Can I make this switch to Google Fiber using my existing name and password? I am currently connected to a Linksys WRT1900acs router. No DD-WT or QOS or port forwarding is activated.
G+_Shooter_FPV (Shooter_FP
I'm. It familiar with Google Fiber, but I would think that even if you had to use their router, you should be able to set it up with your current user/password. It should still work... G+_Travis Hershberger
Yes, plug the WAN Port into the router that Google Fiber provides and you're done. The problems arise when using the ISP provided equipment for anything other than pure access.
G+_Chris Skinner
Just ask customer service for instructions for forwarding your connection so the fiber router only works as a modem.( I forget what they call it) Then use your current router as you currently do. G+_Alfredo Suarez
Chris Skinner you are correct this is called bridgeing the connection between the Google equipment and your existing router...the Google premise equipment should be set to "bridge mode" so it will only act as a modem
G+_Ben Reese
You're Google Fiber router should have configurations for SSID/password. Usually at the gateway IP. Another option is to disable DHCP on your WRT1900acs router and connect it to your Google Fiber router with LAN to LAN ports. I'd also recommend setting the LAN IP on your Linksys router to something in the same subnet as your Google Fiber network (for example, if Google Fiber router IP is 192.168.1.1, set Linksys to 192.168.1.2). Another option would be to leave the Linksys as is and connect the WAN port to a LAN port on Google Fiber.
G+_Brian Horovitz
I have Google fiber and 6 or so months? back they disabled management through the gateway IP, all router management is done through your? my.fiber.google account page but it has all the configuration options you would expect and even allows you to name devices to easily see what is connected to the network. I just use the provided modem/router it handles 2 laptops, 2 Roku, a PS3 and PS4, Chromecast, three phones, and 4 IP security cameras with no problems
