G+_Brad Veenvliet
Can someone please compare the Hubsan X4 vs the Syma X5? I own a Hubsan and would like to know what the differences are.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
The Hubsan X4 is a 2.3" x 2.3" 4 ounce, 4-channel quadcopter -- The Syma X5 is a 7.2" x 7.2", 6 ounce, 6-channel quadcopter. The added size means the Syma can use bigger motors, bigger props and carry bigger batteries. We've got the Hubsan X4 in the studio and there really is no comparison between the two. (especially since the Syma X5 is the same price.) -- The X4 is still a fine craft, but I would not recommend it as a trainer craft over the X5. G+_Steve C
I haven't tried the X5 yet but I have an X4 and it's so unstable there's really no way to fly it. It tends to bounce way up in the air or go down to the ground a lot or just take off and go one way or the other so it's out of control most of the time. There seems to be a delay of about a second from when the remote is operated and when the X4 acts on the input so it's not really able to be steered and can't be controlled much at all. G+_Brad Veenvliet
I've only flown mine indoors and it's not too bad. I don't have these problems that you're talking about. Sounds like an intermittent radio connection. I bought mine from B&H.
G+_Barry Brown
I love the little X4. If you get the blade guard (an extra accessory), you can fly it indoors and not worry about damaging anything when you crash. It will really take a beating and keep going. Spare parts are plentiful and cheap. Another feature the X4 has that the X5 doesn't is the battery warning. The Hubsan will flash its lights about one minute before the battery goes dead. The only indication the X5 gives is it becomes harder and harder to maintain altitude. The X5, being a larger craft, is rock-steady when hovering. The X4 tends to drift more and you have to work the controls a bit to maintain a hover. If you want to fly indoors and practice weaving among furniture legs, get the X4. I think the X5 is more of an outdoor quad.
G+_Ben Reese
I have an X4 and love it! I haven't tried the X5. My X4 came with the prop guard (taped to the bottom of the packaging). I've also still only flown it inside and it does well. With the prop guard on I think it adds a bit of weight and does tend to bounce a bit more than without it. I'm hoping it will be nice enough to take it outside this weekend.
G+_Wayne Black
Syma X5 is bigger and also has geared props that make it more responsive. If I were to buy another nano (micro?) quad, I would get a Syma X11. See:
