G+_Mike Matsco
Hey gang. Need a little help/advice. I had two 1920x1080 monitors and just upgraded one of them to a 3840x2160. While it looks beautiful and gives me the little extra real estate I was looking for, I am having difficulty with the scaling. The 1080 screen is set at 100% and the 4K is set at 150%. All apps look great and work fine on the 4K (with a few minor exceptions), but a great deal many look blurry on the 1080 screen. At first I though it was my eyes, but if I set the 4K to 1080 resolution and drop the scaling to 100%, all is crystal clear. But that defeats the purpose of the 4K, so am I missing something? Any advice? Running Win10. Thanks. Notable apps with problem that I use frequently: FileZilla, MakeMKV, Notepad++ (almost unreadable on the 1080 screen but crystal on the 4K), Thunderbird. G+_Travis Hershberger
I have a 2560x1440 I got because of this issue even with 33" screens. Personally, I wouldn't go with a 4k resolution till using a 40" or larger monitor. That said, I assume you tried the magnification at 100% like normal and couldn't read the text or see the icons? G+_John Sullivan
Easy answer: buy another 3840 x 2160 ... keep in mind that by going from your old monitor at 1920x1080 to new monitor at 3840x2160 you not only doubled the horizontal res, but also doubled the vertical res. I'm not surprised that you are having problems. You'll be much happier when both monitors can display the same res.
G+_Mike Matsco
Pat Hacker OK, thanks. Travis Hershberger I understand what you're saying. And, yes, you are correct. But, my problem is with the 1080 monitor. I cannot read the text, not because of the font size, rather it very poorly rendered. The text is fine in Chrome on this monitor, but apps like the above mentioned are not. John Sullivan When my budget allows and my desk space grows, I plan to do just that. Just don't see either happening in the near future and was looking for advice in the meantime.
G+_Mike B
Are you using the latest Windows 10? They've been improving the scaling options, although some might require the apps themselves to support them.
