G+_Kevin Spitzer (JaguarXT
Only way this makes sense to me is that by 2020 apple will have a complete ecosystem in the home with home kit/apple watch/new Apple TV box. Then they can sell a electric car with home solar power kit that will recharge the car at your home. And everything will be connected to homekit/apple watch/apple tv/iphpne/ipad to control. They can sell privacy and a luxury electric car that you can recharge for free every day with the solar power kit. Won't work for people that live in apartments etc... But even for open parking lots apple could make solar panels for entire parking lots. http://www.theverge.com/2015/2/19/8072813/apple-could-have-a-car-in-production-by-2020-bloomberg-says
G+_Elizabeth Whitmire
Yeah, that'll happen. Could be cool though :-)
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
TThe tech is here both on the electric car and on solar power. Right now apple is close to powering all there operations in the US with renewable. While the price to go solar makes more sense right now on big projects the price of the panels keep coming down and soon will be very viable for homes in mass IMHO. Connectivity will be easier for Apple because of their close ecosystem. If the car is real and that's a big IF, everything else is there.
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
The same batteries used to power electric cars can be use to store solar energy locally.
G+_Grant Brown
I think this is the same hype as when everyone speculated they'd build a TV. Apple builds and sells products with high profit margins which are sold in volume (iPhone). There could potentially be 4 in a home, replaced every 2 years. A car is not their business. It's an entirely different business. They'd need a dealer network, service centres etc. I'll be happy when this rumour goes away.
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
They still can disrupt TV just not by building a TV but a new Apple TV box with streaming TV content and with sling TV etc... Now looks like the time. Also they can add gaming to the box so they can sell live TV, audio, video and gaming content to your living room. Car sounds crazy now but the future of cars is both electric and autonomous, that huge platform to be in. What will you do while on your autonomous car is driving? Consuming apple content? Also home integration is coming and having all this platforms together, home, phone, watch, TV and car it's powerful. It's coming who will dominate is up in the air... G+_Grant Brown
Eng. Jorge Santana Well, this is my point. A streaming box doesn't require any more infrastructure than the current Apple Retail stores. It's still their same business. I was referencing the 'hype' around the TV Apple was supposedly building, which never materialized. Also, Apple doesn't create content...they create devices. There is also no integration between home and car. I can already control my home with my Android device through location services (e.g. Turn lights on/off at a certain location whilst driving) and I don't need an Apple car. G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
They don't create it but most digital sales are on their ecosystem and that 30% is now billions in revenue. Car and ur home integration is not here yet but cars are becoming consumer electronics and they will soon, already you can use Google watch on some cars and phone apps. Again it can be Google, Apple, Tesla or a company yet born but the future of cars is electric, autonomous and integrated to your digital live imho. And who ever dominates will have a powerful platform, dealerships both Google and Apple have the $$$ to build them Tesla has not done a good job so far. Also autonomous cars might drive themselves to get fix so dealership just to sell you the car might be a store in the mall in the future.
