G+_Todd Mizomi
Aloha from Maui! Just discovered TWiT Know How and have a lot of catching up to do :-) I'm currently using a CRU Toughtech Duo with 2 Sandisk Extreme II SSDs in it for video editing in the field. The Duo keeps asking me to rebuild the RAID every few days, even though there is nothing wrong with the SSDs. CRU tech support is "aware of the issue" but has no solutions Really liked ep 146 where you showed the fast DIY USB drive. Do you know if anyone makes an mSATA raid enclosure? Thinking it might be a way to replace my Toughtech Duo.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
I don't know of an mSATA RAID enclosure, but you may want to consider the Synology DS414slim. It's a palm-sized 4-bay 2.5" RAID. Pop four SSDs into that thing and you got a SCREAMING bite-sized box. :)

G+_Todd Mizomi
Mahalo for the tip Padre, though it looks like the DS414slim is more geared for home use. Looking for something small and bus powered that I can use for editing video on a laptop in the field. I might just go for two of those DIY USB drives you showed us. :-)
G+_Jason Marsh
I don't have any experience with that device, but is it possible to run it in a JBOD mode? You might not get the speed and redundancy advantages of RAID, but it might be worth trying.
G+_Todd Mizomi
afaik, the tough tech duo only allows me to set it as RAID 0 or 1. Since I shoot a lot of weddings, I kinda need the safety of a mirrored RAID.
G+_Jason Marsh
Yeah, looks like scary raid (0), mirror (1), or single-drive are the only modes available. I'm not a photographer, so I don't know what your contemporaries are using, but I'd be interested to hear their mobile storage suggestions. About the best I can offer is something similar to this >>> http://www.amazon.com/ZTC-Enclosure-Adapter-SuperSpeed-ZTC-EN002/dp/B00I4701O6 If your mSATA drives are longer than 50mm there may be a similar device to accommodate those.
