G+_Kevin Spitzer (JaguarXT
People will say a 900-1000$ ipad is to much and for that $$$ a PC will be a better buy but a ipad gives you LTE, 10h battery life, 2k display, touch apps for work (cad, audio, video, etc...), great Bluetooth pens like the jot touch. No PC will give you the portability for work a ipad gives you. 128g is great for big files... http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/01/29/apple-launches-new-high-capacity-128gb-retina-display-ipad
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Also this update means no iPad 5 on march...
G+_Demian Dellinger
Good points. It is actually a productivity machine. Only downside is the same old downside which not having direct access to that file system for all that storage. I straddle iOS and Android and iOS feels so constrained when trying to move files around. I prefer local storage to cloud storage and streaming when possible. G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Demian Dellinger there are plenty of apps that make a iOS devise a USB drive when you connect to your PC. That's how I load big CAD and PDF files from work...
G+_Dan Benge
If the iPad was given mouse support, then it would be an okay productivity machine. Its funny to see all the weird workarounds that developers have to invent simply because we cannot use a mouse with an iPad. This is where Android has the advantage. (I own both) If we don't get an iPad 5, then please give us a major iOS update code named the "Productivity Update" and include mouse support with it. G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Dan Benge mouse? It's touch use your finger... IMHO Photoshop Touch UI is better because you use your finger instead of a mouse, more intuitive.
G+_Demian Dellinger
Eng. Jorge Santana Can you link me those apps? I'm curious now. I'm with Dan Benge on being able to use a mouse. I do a lot of graphic design work and prefer using a mouse to anything else. It's really personal preference and personal productivity. (I can't even use a trackpad for anything for more than 10 minutes without my hand cramping or wanting to shoot myself).
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Lou Gagliardi what laptop gives you 10h, weight 2lb, have lte?
G+_Dan Benge
For me, a mouse is much more accurate than a finger. It takes less time to use a mouse to select text, than press-hold, move two points around the text, hold again, then cut and paste. Thats fine when you're just doing minor consumption, but when you have th iPad docked into a keyboard, you might as go all the way and support a mouse as well. G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Dan Benge I disagree IMHO a finger is as accurate as a mouse.
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Lou Gagliardi I use CAD files on the go, use a Bluetooth pen to sing documents on the go and communicate and access work documents for patent management on LTE on the go. Again for work on the go the 128g makes a lot of sense, for most people 16g is enough...
G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Lou Gagliardi this is not for average users, 16 is enough for most users. And the cookie macadamia...
G+_Demian Dellinger
Eng. Jorge Santana I think that the LTE on such an iPad (iPad 5s generally) is a killer feature with such a great battery and being able to hotspot for other deivces. 128GB of local storage is definitely necessary for those shooting video, doing CAD, or lots of audio/music creation and editing. The cloud just will not cut it.
G+_Dan Benge
I disagree..everyone has different sized fingers. I just manage with a stylus now. Mouse support is not an outrageous request. I think Apple needs to realize that the tablet paradigm has changed from their original vision. Other companies seem to be catching on to that with their devices. Give me a keyboard and mouse support when I am at a desk when I need to create, let me remove those and carry it around when I want to consume... G+_Eng. Jorge Santana
Dan Benge outdoor well lol! I use a Bluetooth pen the Jot Touch for writing but to be honest use in a finger for me is the same as a mouse in iOS and I don't have to be carrying one. I really don't see why you need a mouse so badly, maybe surface pro should be your tablet...
G+_P Costello
Just don't drop it. That goes for PC's too.
G+_Liberty Dogood
I was really hoping Apple would intro a 128GB iPad and drop the 16GB version, and keep the price range as it was... Oh well.
G+_Kenji Hayakawa
I agree wtih Dan Benge . The mouse is more accurate than a finger. The finger is too blunt. I personally prefer a wacom pen/stylus for accuracy though. Also, I wouldn't create a large scale CAD project with layers and xrefs (if that's even possible) on the iPad. I'd still go for a laptop or a desktop.
G+_Curtis Gray
Depends on your career... I can't do ANY of my work on an iPad, because there are no code compilers. Apple won't let arbitrary code be run in their walled garden, so even a weak laptop is better for computer engineers like me. My iPad does nothing but collect dust, to be honest with you.
